This housing project is located in a dense and highly structured urban context, with little functional mix. Its objective is the refurbishment of a 1960’s apartment building. The fundamental question it aims to answer is how to modify the identity of a large, massive and impersonal housing building. The addition of light CLT-built “boxes” on the facade creates a new building image. A smaller, humane scale appears, the general volume is thus transformed. The new “box” extensions make it possible to add an extra room or an outdoor space to each apartment. The structural difficulty of adding weight is solved by removing the existing claddings and replacing it with lighter ones.
