The team gathered around Agence Ter, Idea Consult, Baumans Deffet, Inddigo and Hekladonia, worked for 6 months on the development of a strategic masterplan for the 4 steel sites of the Liège metropolis. Inspired by the visual and symbolic power of these four sites, we perceived such a strong anchoring, deep in the social, urban, landscape and economic history of the territory. Although no longer part of the daily life of the city, these places concentrate an impressive set of questions and future challenges that the metropolitan territory will face. Thus, the masterplan was an opportunity to question the place of the industrial economy in the city of the future, and the way to mobilize each site, its specificities and qualities, to develop a modern industrial use there. It is also a question of inventing a sustainable industrial town planning, sensitive to the social, climatic, ecological crises, which cross the territory in a sometimes violent way, as evidenced by the last dramatic flood events in Wallonia. This co-construction urbanism offers tools to anticipate, manage, transform a collective trauma into a project that brings together a multiplicity of points of view, of actors: citizens, companies, institutions... It is thus a question of integrating finally the idea that the economy also belongs to the city, it does not live outside of citizen and climate concerns.
