The transformation of the “Cité Administrative” of Liège more broadly feeds a strategic urban project at the scale of the Metropolis. Freed from its bulky base, the little-loved modernist monolith offers a new porosity, multiplies urban links, reveals new pedestrian continuities and enhances the symbolic proximity of the citizen with his administrative city. The tower offers a vertical addition of modular workspaces. The view to the distant landscape is remarkable. By contrast, the volumetric complexity of the new built volume offers users a landscape of proximity (patios / terraces). The recesses of the built mass ensure the presence of quality natural light in the spaces dedicated to welcoming the public. The urban, architectural and technical project maximizes the potential use of the spaces and anticipates the evolution of the urban context. The project reveals a very significant potential for adaptation, a first sign of the notion of sustainability and environmental awareness.
