Project

L'Olivier

Architect

Vanden Eeckhoudt - Creyf architectes

Programme
Construction of two passive housing units on a corner
About
Doubly oriented, the project is located at the intersection of rue L'Olivier and Petite rue L'Olivier. Façade and roof respond to each other like a faceted monolith. Each of these faces is the result of its location and a search for integration with the templates of the surrounding constructions. The project takes place on the entire free plot with the exception of a small courtyard at the back, giving it a third facade. Each accommodation benefits from several orientations, where the living rooms and kitchens will be both sunny at the beginning and at the end of the day. Small balconies are created on the facade in the window recesses, thanks to a recess of the latter. The lower accommodation is arranged over three levels. The living spaces develop on the upper floor, while the night spaces develop on the ground floor. The second accommodation is accessible by an independent and private access: the outside staircase in the courtyard. This accommodation is organized on two levels. The living spaces are superimposed on those of the first dwelling. Thus, the night spaces develop more calmly under the roof. The project is based on a search for homogeneous materials inscribed in the same color range. The body of the building is made of rolled-grain gray plaster and the roof is made of natural-coloured slates.
