Buda Sorting Center: Reinvention of Industrial Spaces Along the Brussels Canal The new logistics site of the Agence Bruxelles Propreté (ABP) in Brussels demonstrates how an industrial function can positively transform the city. Located along the Brussels Canal near the Buda Bridge, this innovative wooden construction blends harmoniously into the urban landscape, creating warm atmospheres and comfortable spaces in an industrial context. The site includes logistics halls, a sorting center, a social building with offices and amenities, a parking area for vehicles, and a public-access recycling centre. Organized into four longitudinal bands, it features a "hard" band for trucks, a "building" band visible from the canal, a "green" band with water management and a public esplanade, and a separate band for the recycling centre. The wooden structure, with its trusses and CLT floors, reduces the carbon footprint and offers modular flexibility. The wooden trusses transform into a large lattice structure along the canal, forming a distinctive urban interface. This new logistics hub revitalizes an underused area, blending functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal while enriching the urban fabric and community spaces.
