"Walking Madou" is a project set up in a hurry, within only a few weeks. A temporary installation with scrap cars painted yellow and planted with shrubs, air ducts flying in the wind of the Madou tower, urban exercise machines, flower boxes, forests of bollards, reclaimed chairs riveted to the ground, all in the same yellow colour scheme. The general concept of the project was created by Suède 36 with the BLINK designers, designers from the point info (Mathieu Gabiot and Martin Lévêque), ATRIUM Saint-Josse, the STIB and the many municipal and regional services involved in the rollout of the project. It took only a month and a half between the decision to set up the installation and its inauguration. The budget is also paltry compared with the radical change brought about by the event. For months, the area was the scene of organised and spontaneous events. Rappers, skaters, publicists, tourists and a hen night used the yellow theatre on Place Madou as a venue. It was used as an open-air cinema as well as for concerts, dancing and daily football matches between children. Local traders took over the space: a number of pavement cafes opened up, clothes rails were brought out onto the pavement. Urban life resurged for a year. This project is the winner of the ]Pyblik[ prize which rewards the best public space in Brussels in 2014.
