Rotor: Entangled Matter
This autumn, A+ Architecture in Belgium and Bozar present Entangled Matter at the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels. With this exhibition, the Brussels-based collective Rotor explores the way in which flows of materials circulate, and takes a critical look at their own position in the construction economy.
For almost 20 years, Rotor has been examining the organisation of these flows through various projects such as interior design, research, consultancy, exhibitions and publications, and has become known for its commitment to ecology, architecture and the reuse of materials.
In this exhibition, the filmmaking duo Bêka & Lemoine present a series of never-before-seen short films shot on sites, selected by Rotor, where materials are extracted, produced and organised for circulation. They illustrate the complexity of these practices. The short films establish a dialogue with the collective's reflections on the challenges facing the construction sector, particularly in relation to environmental crises.
Rotor has been honoured with numerous awards, including the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, presented by the LOCUS Foundation under the patronage of UNESCO, and the Ultima for Architecture & Applied Arts in 2023.
The exhibition will launch on 15 October 2024 with an inaugural lecture, followed by the opening. Rotor will also be guest editor for the special issue of the A+310 journal, scheduled for publication in December 2024.
