The jury of the 2017 edition of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award has selected 2 projects built by French-speaking Belgian architects:

Polyvalent infrastructure, Spa, 2012-2016 by BAUKUNST

- NAVEZ - 5 social housing as northern entrance of Brussels by MSA in association with V +

They were chosen among the16 Belgian pre-nominated projects.

The Mies van der Rohe Award is granted every two years to acknowledge and reward quality architectural production in Europe. The prize objectives aim at promoting and understanding the significance of quality and reflecting the complexity of Architecture's own significance in terms of technological, constructional, social, economic, cultural and aesthetic achievements.

The Jury in 2017 – Stephen Bates, Gonçalo Byrne, Peter Cachola Schmal, Pelin Derviş, Dominique Jakob, Juulia Kauste and Małgorzata Omilanowska – have chosen 40 works which highlight the opportunities and the trends of today’s European territory: cities, housing, heritage and memory.

On the attitude beyond the difficult task of assessing projects for the award, Stephen Bates, Chairman of the Jury, explains “I would want the shortlisted schemes to demonstrate an interest in making places, in exploring convention and known typologies, in celebrating the pleasures of everyday use by a consideration of detail and an unspoken resistance to the current global tendency towards a self-referential architecture, one that belies context and the act of inhabitation”.

The Jury members selected the 5 finalist works. They are deFlatKleiburg in Amsterdam by NL Architects et XVW architectuur; Ely Court in London by Brooks Architects; Kannikegården in Ribe by Lundgaard&Tranberg Architects; Katyn Museum in Warsaw Varsovie by BBGK Architekci and Rivesaltes Memorial Museum by Rudy Ricciotti. The process will culminate with the Award Ceremony on May 26 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion.

The sports center of Spa by BAUKUNST is presented in the exhibition entrer: five architectures in Belgium, visible from this February 24th at the Festival of architecture of Liège. entrer: also shox the project of the Cage aux Ours designed by MSA in association with Ney&Parntners.

As far  as V+ is concerned, the office is the object of the exhibition V+ architecture documents on five projects displayed in Nancy from February 6th till March 24th 2017.
