TYPE: REFURBISHMENT OF A BUILDING FOR HOUSING,ATELIER AND RECORDING STUDIO CLIENT: PRIVATE SURFACE: 200 m² LOCATION: FOREST DATE OF PROJECT: 2015
About
The building is located in the heart of the block, in direct contact with gardens, garden annexes and blind walls, and is positioned as a volume strongly embedded between various other existing volumes. The multiple differences of interior levels, in cascade, benefit from very ample ceiling heights, constituting one of the spatial richness of the current building. This richness is reinforced by the fact that natural light is strongly limited, emphasizing a very marked contrast of light and dark interior zones, recreating a very intimate atmosphere. This existing morphology, although extremely marked and constraining, is the living heart of the atmosphere of the place, and constitutes the cornerstone of the architectural party developed in this project. The existing roof heights and volumetry are therefore deliberately not significantly modified. The major existing structural elements are preserved. The openings to the exterior remain limited to their strict minimum. We chose to create an open-air patio at the highest point of the floor levels, where natural light and exterior views were lacking. This generous amount of light, via large bay windows, can easily be modulated by shutters or curtains to preserve the contrasts of light and shadow within the volume.
